A 1996 O’Dea graduate, Coach David Bazzi has been coaching the Cross Country Team at O’Dea since 2010. Coach Bazzi has coached numerous state qualifiers while guiding many student-athletes into the collegiate ranks with O’Dea graduates having competed at West Point, University of Portland, University of Chicago, PLU, Seattle U, and Xavier.
While at O’Dea, Coach Bazzi competed at the state meet six times in cross country and track & field and was a member of the 1995 State champion track team. In 1996 he was a runner-up in the state 3200m race and earned All-American honors in the 2 mile race. Coach Bazzi went on to compete at the University of Washington, earning 2 collegiate All-American honors, breaking 3 UW School records (Outdoor: 10k,5k. Indoor: 5k), and winning a Pac-10 Championship in the 2001 10,000m race. He was also selected as a member of US National Team for the 2001 World University games in Beijing, China where he competed in the half-marathon event. In 2016 Bazzi was inducted into O’Dea’s esteemed Wall of Honor.
David and his wife Kara live in North Seattle with their two daughters, Sophia and Hannah.
