O’Dea Swim & Dive
Since 1992, O’Dea’s Swim & Dive Program has developed into a team of champions with high expectations to reach challenging goals with inner resolve and tenacity of spirit. In 2000, the Irish won the State Meet Title and have finished in the top four at State numerous times since then. We have produced:
- 11 Metro League Titles
- 9 State Champion Event Titles
- 3 State records
- 22 Academic All-Americans
- 19 All-American Athletes
- Coach Tom Schutte was named WIAA High School Swimming “State Coach of the Year” in 2000, 2004, and 2011 and Metro League Coach of the Year five times.
- Coach Schutte was inducted into the O’Dea Athletic Wall of Honor in 2010.
- Diving/Asst Swim Coach Ed Artis was named WIAA High School Swimming “State Coach of the Year” in 2015
The Fighting Irish squad added diving as an exciting dimension of our program in 2001 with Paul Prociv breaking new ground as O’Dea’s first state competitor in diving. We have a great diving coach- Coach Ed, exceptional diving boards, and great enthusiasm to develop this piece of our program. In 2015, Casey Benson won the 3A WIAA State Championship, and in 2106 he broke his own school records with 467.80 points (11 dives) and 289.20 points (6 dives) and was an exciting addition to our Championship team.
O’Dea’s Swim and Dive Team continues to build upon their outstanding success. Our program seeks to develop young men who are motivated, disciplined, and goal-oriented both in the classroom and the pool. In 2016, 13 of our 26 athletes were on the Honor Roll and our team GPA was 3.32. We have incorporated IKKOS swim glasses into our training the past few years and utilize this technology to teach the brain to adapt to world class swim stroke and turn techniques. We look forward to great things this year!
