O'Dea High School

Visual Arts

Creating visual art as personal and spiritual expression takes O’Dea students through Studio Art when they learn the elements of design, explore many different media, and complete projects for display.

Studio Art I teaches the fundamentals of drawing and painting in graphite, charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, yarn, acrylics, oils, watercolors, and mixed media. Projects vary from portraits, landscapes, still-lives, cartoons, botanicals, and plein-air drawing.

Advanced media and methods of drawing and painting are explored as Studio Art II students build a portfolio of work worthy of a college-entrance application. Sculpture projects in clay, wire and mixed media are completed in the first semester of the class, with students choosing individual fields of concentration in the second semester to complete their portfolios.
