Instrumental Music

The O’Dea Band is a versatile ensemble that adapts to varied situations. Performance opportunities include sporting events, assemblies, liturgies, fundraisers, concerts, and festivals. The literature for band is chosen from songs, concert literature, and liturgical music written for or adapted to the high school pep band and jazz band instrumentation. Various genres are studied including rock, pop, hip-hop, rap, Latin, funk, and jazz. Skills developed include pitch and tone, sight-reading, rhythm, style and genre, symphonic tone production, rudiments, scales, articulation, breathing, critical thinking and listening, concert etiquette, and rehearsal technique. Students will develop their knowledge in music theory, history, general music appreciation skills, and performance concepts and styles.
