Social Justice Team members are individuals who have a deep concern for the poor and vulnerable within our local and global community. During the school year we organize school fund raisers, participate in community events and become involved in the local community through service. We root our philosophy in Catholic social teaching and often discuss important social and political issues. Activities include: Christmas Family Project, Aids Walk, Diabetes Walk, Cooking at the Family kitchen on Wednesdays, and the Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Christmas Family Project 2011-12
Every year O'Dea High School organizes gifts, food, and household items to help families in need. This year we have requested fourteen families from Providence Regina house in South Park. All families involved are families who have a relationship with Providence Regina house. In the spirit of Christ we hope to show our love of our neighbors and help these families participate in the material elements of Christmas. Each family has provided a "wish list", and I have provided homerooms with a wish list from a family. Our goal is to provide each family member with at least one gift, hopefully this gift comes from their wish list. The wish list is simply a guide, you can find each homeroom's wish list by clicking on the homeroom teacher's name. If you have any questions, feel free to email me, David OlingerThe Christmas Family Project Culminates on Friday, December 16th. Students, Parents, and Teachers help wrap and label the gifts and then parents and students deliver the gifts to the families' homes. We will need drivers on this day from 11:30 to no later than 1:30. If you wish to help drive please email me. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
