Minutes for September 8, 2011 Meeting
- The meeting was called to order by Dave Pellegrini at 6:20 PM.
- Brother Walczak presented the opening prayer.
- All present introduced themselves. In addition to the six Executive Council members, the meeting was attended by Brother Walczak, Dianne Irwin, David Mazzeo, John Platt ’79, and Dean Tougas ’75
- Br Walczak, O’Dea Principal, was welcomed and gave those present a brief biography. He is very impressed by the faculty, staff, and students at O’Dea.
ADGENDA
Due to time constraints, the agenda began with discussion of the possibility of designing an alumni handball tournament or some type of handball activity. The discussion was let by John Platt. Logistics were discussed and it was decided that a small group meeting would be held at a later date.

Representatives were announced for several of the decades. The process is ongoing to contact prospective representatives for the open decades.

UPCOMING EVENTS
* ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN
The Phonathon will be on September 26th, 27th, and 28thfrom 4 to 8 PM. Several people signed up to make calls from O’Dea or independently make calls from their homes.
* HOMECOMING 2011
The game will be on September 30 with Bishop Blanchet at West Seattle Stadium.
A tailgate BBQ will be from 5 to 6:30. The Council agreed to spread the word and support the BBQ in any way needed.
* CAREER DAY
The date is October 12th. The hours are 8 AM to 12 PM. This has always been a great success and prospective presenters should contact David Mazzeo at 206-622-0722.
* ALUMNI MEMORIAL MASS
The second annual Mass will be on November 19th in the Cathedral. There will be a lunch to follow. The Development Office has requested names and addresses of families of deceased alumni be submitted by October 10th. Invitations will be mailed to these families.
* POSH 2012
The dates are Friday, March 16th, Family Night in the O’Dea Gym and Saturday, March 17th, Gala Evening, at the Washington State Convention Center. Plans are already being made and alumni involvement is welcomed and encouraged.
NEW BUSINESS
* THE O’DEA STORY
A discussion was held on how to tell “The O’Dea Story” to an expanded audience. Those in attendance presented some very good ideas and a willingness to pursue. the subject.
* ALUMNI MARINERS NIGHT
This item was tabled to be discussed at a later meeting. We will try to organize a Mariners Night sometime in the 2012 baseball season.
* SMALL DUPLICATE OF BANNERS IN THE GYM
Those in attendance discussed some ways of displaying O’Dea graphically at events such as the homecoming game or school visits. Among the suggestions was the possibility of having a banner made showing the inside of the O’Dea gym.
