O'Dea Executive Council
Minutes for May 17, 2011 Meeting
Meeting began at 6:15 PM
Present: Brother Dominic Murray, Dianne Irwin, David Mazzeo ’99, Ken Wiseman ’77, Gene Kranc ’61, Dave Pellegrini ’70, Tom McDonough ’71, Brian Bruce ‘89

Since 1923 O’Dea has been consistently operating as a full service high school. It has an active alumni group. About 7,700 men have graduated from O’Dea. About 6900 are still living. Many participate in activities and support the O’Dea mission. The Alumni Association will support current activities. We will grow the association with our talents and encourage alums to participate in any way they can. The Alumni Association will welcome and support our new Principal.
* Review of By-Laws
The Executive Council briefly reviewed the By-Laws prepared by David Mazzeo. Emphasis was given to the definitions of Executive Council Positions. Also, the need for the Council to interact with the class representatives.
* Proposed annual priorities—Dave Pellegrini
1. The association will make efforts to enhance the outcome of fundraisers and activities. David Mazzeo spoke on the many activities. O’Dea alums now have a Facebook page.
- The Alumni Golf Tournament is on June 17th. Greg Nelson is the Chairman.
- The Alumni Basketball Tournament is August 7th Eddie Lincoln ’98 is the Chairman
- The Homecoming Football game is on Sept 30. The chair is open
- Alumni Memorial Mass is on November 19th, 11 AM. Lunch will follow
- Career Day is in the middle of October
- The Fathers’ Club Italian Dinner is in February
- The Brothers’ Retirement Fund Benefit Breakfast is on May 20th.
- The association will assist the school annual giving campaign in September.
2. The Executive Council made recommendations for Decade Representatives and will attempt to contact the recommended alums. 40’s George Zamberlin, 50’s Pat Burns, 60’s Mike McCann, 70’s Dean Tougas, 80’s John McDonald , 90’s Eric Foy, 2000’s Mike Rittman.
3. We will be supporting the O’Dea Alumni Golf Tournament
4. The Council will work on a “Career Assistance Program” for O’Dea seniors and alumni in college.
* Upcoming Events
1. Brother Murray Appreciation Reception on May 22 from 2 to 4 at O’Dea
2. The O’Dea Alumni Golf Tournament on June 17th at Redmond Ridge.
* New Business/Open Discussion
During the meeting, Dianne Irwin’s 11th grandchild was born. Rhys Emery Irwin.
