Mission Statement:
O'Dea High School brings the highest standards of quality Catholic education to a diverse economic, racial and ethnic student body. Our education is based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and builds a true community of living faith and service. We are committed to the education of young men: academically, spiritually, socially and physically. O'Dea provides an environment rich in diversity, strong in traditional values and sound in its academic foundation.
Founded: 1923
Our school building is included on Seattle’s First Hill historic walk.
Location:
O’Dea is centrally located on First Hill, which overlooks downtown Seattle. St. James Cathedral is across the street and Seattle University is three blocks away. Our central location allows for a student body drawn from the entire metropolitan area, including young men from 84 zip codes in four counties, 50 parishes and 42 Catholic grade schools.
Enrollment: 424 young men, grades 9 – 12
Our student body reflects the full range of cultural, ethnic, intellectual, and socio-economic diversity in the greater Seattle community.
Why All-Boys?
Why All-Boys? O'Dea High School is a Gurian Model School. The Gurian Institute, founded by author and gender expert Michael Gurian, creates awareness and trains teachers and parents about how boys learn and grow differently. Gurian Model Schools employ brain research based methods of teaching to the uniqueness of male students. The young men of O'Dea strive for excellence - academically, athletically, socially, and spiritually, and we help them achieve excellence by employing Gurian's "boy-brain" teaching methods in our classrooms.
